Cascade’s Knitterati Afghan KAL

Hey knitters! Have you heard? Cascade Yarns is celebrating thirty years of producing high quality, affordable yarns to the knitting and crocheting community, and in order to celebrate, they are hosting an afghan KAL!

Using five colours of their popular Cascade 220 Superwash yarn, this afghan contains thirty blocks, each one designed by a popular knitwear designer.

The way that this KAL works, is that a new block will be released every few weeks throughout the entirety of 2017. While it is free to participate, each block will cost a small fee after the next one is released. So be sure to stay on top of the downloads!

Should you happen to fall behind in your knitting (or your downloading) however, worry not! The money raised from the sale of each pattern will be directly donated to an organization called Haiti Babi, which is dedicated to training and employing struggling mothers in Haiti. While you may kick yourself for missing the ‘download deadline’, you can rest easy, knowing that your money is going to such a great cause.

In order to sign up for this KAL, simply visit the  Cascade Yarns website, and be sure to sign up for their newsletter. It is as simple as that! Once you have signed up, they will send you coupon codes that are to be used on Ravelry to access each block. Simply enter the coupon code at checkout, and VOILA! The pattern is  yours to keep.

As previously mentioned, Cascade is using their popular 220 Superwash yarn in five gorgeous shades of greens and blues. While you are of course more than welcome to use the yarn and colours that they have chosen, you can also use your own palette or alternative, similar gauge yarn. While it appears as though some people participating in the KAL on Ravelry have chosen to use one solid colour throughout the blanket, Cascade strongly recommends using five different shades, as the finished afghan lends itself well to the variety of colours.

While the colours chosen by Cascade are pictured in the banner up above, they have been kind enough to offer up some other colour options, for those who want to try something a little different.

If jewel tones are what you crave, this collection of Cascade 220 Superwash in (starting top left and going clockwise) 1951 Sapphire Heather, 1975 Provence, 1948 Mystic Purple, 900 Charcoal and 859 Lake Chelan Heather might just work for you.

If the denim look is more your thing, this range of Cascade 220 colours is sure to strike a chord with you. Clockwise starting from top left- 9559 Indigo Frost Heather, 8836 Stonewash, 8401 Silver Grey, 8400 Charcoal, 9560 Liberty Heather.

And if you are itching to knit with Cascade’s gorgeous 100% 220 Superwash Merino yarn, but love the original colours, then you’re in luck! There are very similar shades in the merino! Starting from top left and going clockwise, 32 Medium Jewel, 17 Green Tea, 36 Aqua, 26 Silver Heather, 18 Violet Tulip.
